Caring for and arranging your flowers

You've received your Julep Box and are feeling the love. Don't let arranging of your flowers intimidate you by following these easy steps:

Step 1: Unbox your flowers

Create a little workstation for yourself – we like the openness of the kitchen counter and it's close proximity to a water source. Take each flower out and place them side-by-side on the surface.

We've been told that this is also a great time to open a bottle of wine and put on your favourite playlist!

Step 2: Preparing the stems

It's time to wake up these sleeping beauties!

Give each stem a sharp-angled cut, about 3cm from the end. Avoid blunt scissors as crushed stems won't absorb water.

Gently pull off any leaves that will fall below the waterline. You'll want to keep your water clean, and floating leaves encourage bacteria.

Step 3: Choose your vase and arrange your flowers

We’d recommend choosing a vase that is about a third of the height of your stems. Make sure your vase is clean and fill it two-thirds full with cool water. Add flower food (we provide a sachet with each Julep Box) – it will make a real difference!

Begin arranging. There is really no right or wrong way of doing this! We find it is easiest to first place the foliage, crisscrossing them in the vase. Then add your larger flowers, followed by your smaller and more delicate blooms. As you're placing the stems, try to get an even mix of colour and texture.

Step 4: Keep up the care

Find your flowers a spot in the house they will love –  somewhere cool with soft natural light, nothing too drafty, and away from fresh fruit.

Every three days take a moment to retrim the stems and refresh the water.
