Our Year in Review | Customer Stories

2024 was a year of record growth for Julep. It brought so many new and exciting things – a bigger studio and growing team, fresh box designs filled with flowers that changed with the season and ‘bucket list’ brand partnerships.

Through this change, our mission has remained the same: Making Your Day. And so, from all of the boxes of blooms that we packed and delivered far and wide, it is the individual customer stories that make us most proud.

Here are five of our favourite customer stories from this year. These have been inspired by feedback forms, emails sent to our team and conversations with customers. We have changed some of the personal details to maintain anonymity. We hope that these stories make your day today, and remind you just how beautiful a small gesture can be.

Showing up, again and again

Earlier this year, I lost one of my dear friends. She had a daughter in her early thirties, Chloe, who I had met a few times. At the time of the loss, I wanted to send Chloe some flowers and came across your subscription option. I selected “3 months of flowers”, with a box of blooms to be delivered once a month. With the first delivery, I received a whatsapp message – she thanked me for thinking of her. I’m sure she sent out many messages like that over those days.

A month later, after the second delivery, Chloe asked me whether I’d like to meet for a coffee. We had a special conversation that day. And then the third delivery arrived. Chloe asked me whether I’d be open to helping her work on her garden, something I had always loved, as did her Mum. And now, every so often, I visit her and we garden together. I think of her Mum, and how happy it would make her to know that Chloe will always have flowers in her home.

Here Comes the Sun

For many years, I struggled to meet my person. After what felt like too many bad dates, I spent some time writing down what I wanted in a partner. I included “sends me yellow flowers” amongst the many things that were important. I kept this list as  a closely guarded secret. A few months later, I met Wikus.

We met for dinner at a Greek restaurant in Parkhurst, and it felt like the start of something special. The week after our date, I received Julep’s ‘Here Comes the Sun’ – filled with yellow flowers. At that moment, I knew I had met my person. On our wedding day, a day filled with yellow flowers, Julep got a special mention.

Together in the driveway

Our family has had a very difficult time lately, with my Mum battling a serious health issue. I ordered a box of Julep flowers to be delivered the day she left the hospital. I had a few delivery requests, as we weren’t sure of when she would be getting home that day. The team was responsive and understanding, ensuring everything went smoothly. When the flowers arrived, the delivery driver, Edet, smiled and asked whether they were for a birthday. We explained that they were unfortunately for our Mother who was unwell. In a touching moment, he asked if he could say a prayer for her, and right there in our driveway, he prayed for her recovery.

A week later, the flowers are still as fresh and beautiful as the day they arrived. Thank you for bringing so much warmth to our family during this difficult time.

New beginnings

I recently started a new job and felt very apprehensive about my first day. I would be working from home for my first couple of weeks, and I was nervous about how I would connect with, and learn from, my new colleagues. That first morning was tough, with so many mixed emotions. Later that day, my doorbell rang. A box of flowers welcoming me to the team. The delivery brightened up my office space and set me on a completely different trajectory. I now keep flowers on my desk, as a reminder of how small gestures can turn things around.

Beauty in today

Last month, it would have been my best friend’s birthday. I sent a box of Julep flowers to her two young children with the following message:

Today might feel like a hard day, but please remember that today is a special day too. Today, we get to celebrate your wonderful Mum. She was everything to me, and you were everything to her. She made life brighter by being in it, and had a way of lifting people up. She once sent me a box of these flowers on my birthday, and today I wanted to send them to you. Please put on her favourite music and arrange these flowers together. There is beauty in today.
