Julep featured in Go! Platteland Magazine
Nic RossleeIn the Spring 2025 issue of go! Platteland, Julia and I had the pleasure of chatting about our journey with Julep, what drives us, and the story behind our signature delivery boxes.
go! Platteland is a celebrated quarterly South African magazine that captures the heart, soul, and slow-living spirit of rural and small-town South Africa. Celebrating local craftsmanship, beautiful gardens, regional food, and inspiring local entrepreneurs, it’s a publication dedicated to the simpler, sweeter things in life.
In this piece, titled The Spoils of Spring, we talked about our "just-because" philosophy, how over 2,600 five-star customer reviews keep us grounded, and how inspiration from international pioneers helped us shape our unique box-delivery experience in Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Cape Town.

The Spoils of Spring: Say it with flowers!

Is there any gift more special than a bunch of flowers, especially when it’s delivered in a beautiful box accompanied by a photo card?
The 2 644 five-star reviews on the Julep Flowers website must mean they’re doing something right. The couple who own the business, Julia and Nic Rosslee, describe the story of Julep Flowers as a love story.
“We had only been dating for a few months when we started talking about our future. We wanted to do something that we cared about, and that would also make other people’s lives better,” says Nic. “We were both crazy about flowers and we saw an opportunity to place our own unique stamp on the industry.”
Their concept was simple: Offer the best experience possible for the person sending the flowers and for the person receiving them. With just a few clicks on the Julep Flowers website, you can order flowers for delivery in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town from Mondays to Fridays. And if you place your order before 10:00, they will be delivered on the same day.
If you want to make it really special, choose the “Add photo” option on the website to include a photo of your choice along with the flowers and card.
Sending a beautiful pot plant is also an option.
Who are your biggest clients?
“More than 85% of our orders are by women who are sending flowers to other women, for all the usual reasons you can think of, and sometimes a few surprising ones. But mostly they’re doing it for our favourite reason: just because,” says Nic. “Our clients are wonderfully friendly and thoughtful.”
Where did you find inspiration for your beautiful delivery boxes?
“When we started our research, we came across two British delivery companies, Bloom & Wild and Freddie’s Flowers, that use lovely boxes. The boxes are also practical – they protect the flowers, make transporting them easier, and they look beautiful. And what’s better than opening a lovely package?”
Why all the good online reviews?
“We really love what we do. And we’re consistent. We show up every day with our team and we give our best.”
